Night in The Village, Hirta
St. Kilda, Scotland

Unframed archival pigment print

On August 29, 1930 the remaining 36 villagers said goodbye to the island and their former lives. The British government sent two ships to the remote Atlantic archipelago and in that one day they packed up their belongings and left St. Kilda,  leaving it to the wild Atlantic storms and invoking melancholy memories of a lost world. The ruins of the abandoned village on St. Kilda speak of lost families and foregone dreams after people had lived here for perhaps two thousand years. It’s worth a moment to recall that lost realm.
