Beltane Fire Festival
Edinburgh, Scotland

Unframed archival pigment print

The Beltane Fire Festival on Calton Hill in Edinburgh brings this ancient Celtic festival to life, reflecting the return of the light of Spring after the darkness of Winter. Beltane is the root source of our May Day festival and the May Queen is a central figure, follow by torch bearers and her entourage. This was a central image of my coverage of the Celtic Realm for National Geographic. The night was thrilling but photography in the darkness amidst flickering torches was extremely challenging.
