Pott. County Pork & Bean Band Dance
Belvue, Kansas
"The Pott. County Pork and Bean Band was popular in 1970s rural Kansas, putting on dances in disused gymnasiums such as this one in Belvue. They were wild dances, with everyone bringing coolers of beer (and more) in the door. I photographed the band for several years, even producing a record album cover for them. It was dark so I had to set up lights and run a cord out across the teeming dance floor to fire the flashes. This image was central in my entry that received a Special Recognition award in the World Understanding contest in 1976."
